Diving deeper into financial statements can be done by taking key data points off financial statements and doing calculations with them in order to create greater insights. This model includes the calculations and input instructions to calculate up to 17 ratios. All the user needs is access to the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Statement in order to make use of this.

Each tab has a separate Accounting ratio. Within each tab is the explanation of the ratio and the financial statements that contain the data required. I tried to make the inputs as granular as possible so the user can see exactly what pieces are required to get to the values that are used in each ratio calculation.

There are two roll-up features. The first is a roll-up of all the ratios, which auto-populates as each tab is filled out. The second tab does the same thing, but has a periodic tracker that makes it easy to organize the results over time or results of a given company relative to other companies in the same industry.

All kinds of analysis can be done to further the usefulness of this analyzer. The user can easily build cases where there are charts / grades / etc.. attached to each resulting ratio for each period or each company. Often times the metrics calculated in this sheet are best used in comparison rather than in a vacuum. For example, if you have 10 different companies within the same industry that you are looking at investing in and you want to see which ones have the best financial health scores, this sheet will help give insight into that.
