Contractor Estimating & Job Costing Suite is a complete Excel workbook for contractors, builders, remodelers, fit-out companies and specialty trades who want to price jobs accurately and know, at any moment, whether each job is making money.
Most contractors find out a job lost money after it is finished. This suite shows you while there is still time to act. It compares the budget you have spent with the work actually completed on every job, flags jobs that are spending ahead of progress, forecasts where each job will land, and explains it in plain English.
WHAT IT IS FOR
– Building estimates line by line and pricing them for the margin you want
– Sending clean, client-ready quotes
– Tracking every job’s costs, variation orders (change orders) and billing
– Knowing the projected profit and margin on every job, and exactly where your cash stands
– Seeing the health of your whole business on one dashboard
WHAT’S INCLUDED: 10 CONNECTED TABS
1. Start Here: a four-step setup and a guide to reading the workbook
2. Dashboard: eight key figures, written insights, job health and five charts (budget vs actual by job, cost mix, projected margin by job, billed vs collected, paid vs pending)
3. Job Report: any job end to end, with progress vs spend, forecast cost at completion, projected gross profit and margin, budget by category, cash and variation orders
4. Bid Estimator: up to 30 cost lines with overhead, contingency, markup and tax, plus a margin check that shows the markup you need to hit your target margin
5. Client Quote: a printable one-page quote built from the estimate. Client prices include your overhead and markup, never your costs
6. Jobs: up to 100 jobs and bids with contract value, budget by category, payment terms and progress
7. Cost Log: up to 1,000 expenses by job, category and vendor
8. Variation Orders: up to 250 change orders with client price, added cost and approval status
9. Billing: up to 600 invoices with payments, balances and days overdue
10. Settings: company details, currency, pricing defaults, margin target and alert thresholds
TWO EDITIONS
A Blank edition ready for your own jobs, and an Example edition filled with a fictional contractor so you can see every page working before you start.
HOW TO USE IT
1. Enter your company name, currency and pricing defaults on Settings.
2. Build your estimate on the Bid Estimator and print the Client Quote.
3. When you win the job, add it to Jobs, then log costs, variation orders and invoices as they happen.
4. Review the Dashboard and Job Report. Everything else calculates automatically.
