Sheet Names Description
1.1 Input Contains user defined key variable data that determines the output of the model.
1.2 Schedule Contains information on all assets/capital acquired and calculations of monthly depreciation per asset. Here is where asset specific information is entered by the user.
1.3 Additions Contains a monthly and annual report of the additions made by the entity during the reporting period.
1.4 Depreciation Contains a monthly and annual report of the depreciation during the reporting period.
1.5 GoL on Disposal Contains a monthly and annual report of the gain or loss (GoL) on disposal recorded during the reporting period.
1.6 AMS Contains a monthly and annual report of the asset movement schedule (AMS), showing “opening, additions, disposal and closing” values for cost and accumulated depreciation for each asset class, as well as NBV.

4 . Step by Step Instructions
INPUT SHEET
4.1 Entity Name Enter the name of your entity.
4.2 Current Period Enter the current period date. This represents the end date of the month you are currently in. Make sure this is the last day of that month (e.g. 2023-05-31 and NOT 2023-05-01).
4.3 Year of Report Enter the year you intend the report to start. This is the desired start date of all the reports created in this excel template.
4.4 Depreciate Asset in Disposal Month? Select “Yes” if you want to depreciate the asset in the month of disposal, otherwise, select “No”.
4.5 Asset Class Enter the asset classes (categories) adopted by your entity.
4.6 Useful Life Enter the corresponding useful life (in years) of each asset class identified in step 4.5 above.
SCHEDULE SHEET
4.7 Asset Description Enter the description or name of each new asset acquired, providing as many detail as desired.
4.8 Asset Class Select the asset class the asset belongs. This must be one of the asset classes created in step 4.5 above.
4.9 Asset Cost Enter the cost of acquiring the specific asset in this column.
4.10 Residual Value Enter the residual value of that asset here, if any. This column could be zero if there is no residual value.
4.11 Date of Acquisition Enter the date the asset was acquired and capitalized for depreciation purposes.
4.12 Disposed? Y Enter “Y” if the asset has been disposed. Leave blank if the asset has not been disposed and is still in the books.
4.13 Sale Proceeds If the asset is disposed, enter the amount received for the disposal. This can also be zero if asset is written off or there is no sale proceeds on the disposal.
4.14 Date of Disposal Enter the date the asset was disposed and derecognized in the books. Regardless of the exact date the asset was disposed, insert the end of the month.
4.15 New Rows To add new rows, insert new rows, and copy down the formulas, while imputing the cells in blue fonts as desired.
5 . General Model Guide
5.1 Report Start Date All reports will start on the first day of January of the year selected in step 4.3.
5.2 # Reference DO NOT delete or modify the # Reference table in the input tab of this template.
5.3 Depreciation Method The depreciation method adopted in this template is the straight line method.
5.4 Basis of Model The model is prepared on a month basis and is not flexible for the mid period dates. Reports are both monthly and annual.
5.5 Monthly Reports The monthly additions, depreciation, GoL, and AMS reports also show data for the Life to Date period, which is the data from the month of first asset capitalization.
5.6 Date of Acquisition Date of acquisition in the “Schedule” tab can be any day of the month.
5.7 New Asset Class This model captures cost six asset classes with room for more. If your entity has more than the 6 assets classes used in the template, copy down the last rows (sets of rows) to a new row under and relink the data as necessary.
