Live Commerce APP Financial Model

The idea of this Live-Commerce App is, that sellers can use an online marketplace, where they can present and sell their products within live video streams. The potential for live commerce is gigantic. In China, Live selling represents more than 10% of e-commerce and has been growing by 280% per year between 2017 and 2020. By 2022, live commerce sales in China are estimated to reach $ 423 billion.

Tab Assumptions:

  • New App Sellers / month: The number of new sellers per month, that use the app.
  • Churn of app sellers / month in %: You will always lose a part of your customer base. Define a percentage.
  • Churn of app user / month in %: Users are buyers, that use the app. Define the churn rate.
  • Follower / App seller: If your app sellers do have social media following, define the average amount of followers, as they can become users of your app.
  • Conversion Follower to App User: The conversion rate in percent of followers of app sellers, that become app users.
  • Auctions / App Seller / month: The number of auctions an app seller does on average per month.
  • Average Sales Price: The average price for items, that are sold on the app.
  • App Sales fee in %: You can charge a fee in % of the sales price to sellers if an item gets sold.
  • Store Fee / month: You can charge a fee to app sellers for having a seller account in your app.
    Conversion User to VIP User: Some users (free account) are willing to pay a fee for getting a premium account – i.e. no ads or exclusive benefits. Define a percentage.
  • VIP User fee / month (no ads): Define the monthly fee you charge for a VIP user account.
  • App dwells time / user in min: Define how long users stay on your app on average in minutes.
  • Shown Ads / min: Define, how many ads you show on your app per minute.
  • RPM revenue / 1k ad impressions: The revenue you make for showing ads on your app. i.e. 1 to 9 $ per 1k impressions.
  • Data volume / 1 min video / user in MB: To calculate the streaming cost, you need to define the data volume based on video resolution. i.e. HD 88 MB, Full HD 205 MB, UHD 348 MB.
  • Cost of video streaming / GB: Define the streaming cost per GB. i.e. 0.01.
  • Rent / month: The rent for your office.
  • Expenses in % of sales: Define a percentage for each cost category.
  • Equipment: To start your business you will need to buy certain equipment. Define items and prices and useful life in years to calculate depreciation per year.
  • Financing: Describe the funding of your business. Cash is your equity and loan is debt.
  • Interest rate: the annual interest rate for your loan in percent.
  • Tax rate: the income tax rate in your country in percent.
  • Store fee discount: You can discount the fee you charge to sellers – especially during startup – to attract more new sellers. Define a percentage for each month. 100% means full discount – free. 0% means no discount – regular price.
  • VIP User fee discount: the same discount for VIP users. Define a percentage.
